Every two minutes…
May 21, 2009
Last year, when we went to Haiti, a team member from Delaware was faced with the reality of sex slavery and child prostitution. A Haitian herself, her heart broke with sadness when she saw what little girls as young as 6 years old were forced to do in order to survive. The pain in her heart, created by the images she saw and the things she encountered, moved her to take action. She started a ministry named SHAMA in Seaford, Delaware to raise awareness and rescue little girls in Haiti from this cruel and gruesome lifestyle.
These are some of the things that we will encounter in Haiti. We firmly believe that God is calling our family to minister, protect, care for, and love the Haitian children. In Haiti the category of children at risk is too broad. It includes the orphans, the restaveks, the sex slaves, those abandoned and neglected by their parents and society, homeless children, and even teens that are reaching the age 18 that have no hope for a better future.
The issues are too many to number or even begin to tackle, but God is mighty. And He can use any one of us who is willing to do their part one little bit at a time.
Check out this video. These numbers are sickening. It hurts my heart to know that this is happening, not only in Haiti, but all over the world.—Maria
Flip flops for the children of Haiti
May 21, 2009
Old Navy is having a sale on their flip flops this Saturday, May 23rd. You can purchase a pair of flip flops for $1. Yes, you are reading this correctly one buck gets you a pair of shoes.
Please consider buying a few of these flip flops for the children of Haiti. Adult sizes are great too since older children will benefit from them as well as others in the community. Cody will be going to Haiti in July and can bring them over. Whatever he cannot take with him we will bring with us when we leave in the fall.
You can bring your flip flops to the church to Eric Wilkes class in room B204. Our Connect Group meets at 9:30AM. If you have any questions or want to get some flip flops, but will not be able to bring them to church, please contact me at codyandmaria2002@yahoo.com.
Many blessings to you.

We’ve been invited…
May 10, 2009
We have been invited to MOT (Missions Orientation Training) at the mission organization that we applied to! We are very excited. The training and orientation will take place the 1st week of June in Tupelo, MS. At the end of the week, if all goes well, we will be officially approved as missionaries with this organization, and we will let you all know what organization that is. Then, we will begin raising financial support. Once a certain percentage is raised, we will move to Haiti. We are still hoping and praying that we will be in Haiti by October. God is good. We are excited.
Give a Man a Fish…
May 3, 2009
You know the old saying, “Give a man a fish and you have fed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime.” Well, our desire in going to Haiti is not only to give out “fish” every single day so that the people continue to depend on us to eat, but also to teach them “how to fish” so that they are able to sustain Read more
