The Gospel is offensive to the homosexual!

…and to the adulterer…and to the fornicator…and to the liar…and to the moral do-gooder who rests on his own strength…and to the selfish who live only to “get theirs”…and to the greedy…and to the self righteous…and to the…  Do you get the point here?

I feel compelled to write this in response to two groups of people.

First to the homosexuals who rejoice in their lifestyle (which the Bible clearly calls sin) who get mad at Christians who tell them that their sin of homosexuality is an offense to God…who think that somebody that preaches the Bible as the infallible word of God is narrow minded, unloving, uncaring, dogmatic, and full of pride.

Second, I write this to those Christians who do quickly point out that homosexuality is an offense to God…to those who are celebrating right now because certain states have voted in favor of keeping the institution of marriage as being between a man and a woman.  Those who are posting verses everywhere that tell of the offense that homosexuality is in God’s eyes.

You see, I have seen a media war lately.  The homosexuals on one side and the Christians on the other side.  The Christians are blasting media sites the moment that the vote is read that their state will deny same sex marriage.  They celebrate that righteousness has triumphed.  Then the homosexual retaliates and blasts the Christians for being so narrow minded and dogmatic.  And then the sides are reversed when another state approves the bill of same sex marriage.  The homosexuals celebrate openly and unashamedly parading themselves all around showing that their lifestyle should indeed be recognized as legitimate and honorable both before God and before man.  And then the Christian starts blasting the homosexual with verses from the Bible letting them know that they are going to burn in hell if they do not repent.  And so the war continues.

So, to these two groups of people, I will say the same thing:  The Gospel is offensive to the homosexual!  There is no other way to say it.  And yes, that is being what some may call “narrow minded”  But that’s exactly how the Christian is called to live their lives.  Remember the words of Jesus who said, “Enter through the narrow gate, for broad is the way that leads to destruction and many enter in, but narrow is the way that leads to life and only few enter in.”  So, in the words of Jesus Himself, we as Christians should not be anything but narrow minded.  And let’s face it…the Bible clearly and explicitly condemns both the act of homosexuality and the unrepentant homosexual.  There are too many scriptures to name here, but one most clearly stated in the Bible is found in 1 Cor. 6:9-11 where it states that “homosexuals will not enter the Kingdom of God.”  So, here is the deal:  If you are a Christian, then you believe exactly what the Bible says.  You don’t twist the scriptures to fit your lifestyle, but rather you should twist your lifestyle to fit the scriptures.  And if you believe the Bible as being the Word of God, then there is no other way around it but to say that homosexuality is a sin.  It is an offense to God.  And the punishment of the unrepentant person who practices homosexuality is indeed the judgment of God in hell.  Call it narrow minded or call it whatever you want.  I simply call it the Bible.

So, now that I may have every homosexual ripping mad at me right now thinking that I’m just another religious fanatic who is waving my self righteous flag in the face of the homosexual, let me continue.  Now that I may have a lot of Christians in my corner cheering me on in speaking out against the atrocities of such sinful acts, please let me continue.  I say this loud and clear to both the homosexual who may read this and to the Christian who may read it.  Listen again to what I said at the very beginning of this post.  The Gospel is offensive to the homosexual…AND to the adulterer…AND to the fornicator…AND to the liar…AND to the moral do-gooder who rests on his own strength…AND to the selfish who live only to “get theirs”…AND to the greedy…AND to the self righteous…AND to the…  Do you get the point here?  The Gospel offends all that is against God.  That’s the point, for only when we truly see that we have indeed offended a holy and righteous God can we ever truly see our desperate condition and our need for a Savior.  And only then can we truly see how amazing Christ’s love is for us that He would take our punishment for our sins upon Himself by going to the cross.  Such amazing love that He died for the most vile of all people.  He died for the murderer, for the thief, for the homosexual, for the heterosexual, for the prideful, for all who call upon the name of the Lord!

So, the reality is that we are no different than the homosexual in our offenses against God.  Without repentance and faith in Christ alone, our punishment will be just the same as the homosexual.  The Bible states, “There is no difference, for ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”  (Romans 3:23)  So, unless we have trusted in Christ to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins and we have turned away from our sin and turned towards God, we will all share the same lot in our judgment, whether homosexual or heterosexual.  And the only way out of such terrible judgment which is offered to ALL is the saving work of Jesus Christ on the cross.  Am I then really any different than the homosexual even though I have never even had a homosexual thought?  Not really, except for the fact that God opened my eyes to see the nature of my sin and my need for salvation, and granted me the grace to repent and receive such a salvation through Jesus Christ.  If I had not turned to God, I would be no different in God’s eyes than the most blatant homosexual.  How then can I boast?  How can I wave the “anti-gay” banner in the face of the homosexual?  I cannot.  The only banner that I can wave is the “Christ is the only remedy to your sin” banner.  And this banner should be waved to all people, not just the homosexual.

Let’s pause for just a moment and ask the question:  “Why is homosexuality considered such a sin in God’s eyes?”  And the answer is very simple.  God designed marriage, according to Ephesians 5, to represent a picture of Christ and His bride, which is the church.  Christ has instituted a covenant among His children, between Himself and His bride.  And marriage is the sacred covenant under God that a man makes with a woman which is to depict the unbroken relationship that God has with His very own people.  Therefore homosexuality completely violates the covenant that God instituted from the beginning stating that God made both male and female, and that “for this reason a man shall leave his mother and father and be united to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”  (Gen. 2)  So, we see that God designed from the beginning that a man and wife come together to become one flesh, and then adds to this in the Gospels when He states, “Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”  So, marriage is absolutely sacred and anything that violates this holy institution, including homosexuality, is a great offense in the eyes of God.  But realize that it is not just homosexuality that offends the institution of marriage.

So, here is my question to the Christian who finds him/herself waving the “anti-gay” banner in the face of the homosexual:  What other banners are you waving out there?  Surely, if you are getting in the face of the homosexual, then you must be getting in the face of the person who watches rated R or even Pg-13 movies that depict suggestive sex scenes between a man and woman who are not married, right?  Because let’s call a spade a spade, such a suggestive scene is just as offensive to the holy institution of marriage before God as the homosexual.  So, to those of us who are truly followers of Christ, let’s get real here.  How is it that we can be so disgusted by flipping onto a channel that shows two guys kissing, but then have no problem flipping to a show on MTV that shows people hooking up for sport making an absolute mockery of all that God has called sacred?  Or how can we justify condemning the practice of homosexuality and then seeking to be entertained by things that make just as much as a mockery of God’s prescriptive design of marriage?  We’re so appalled by homosexuality, but we’re not appalled by shows like “The Bachelor” that show a guy hooking up with several different girls before choosing the one he wants to marry?  How absurd isn’t it?  Yet shamefully, how true, right?  I know I’m guilty of having done that.  Not necessarily with a show like “The Bachelor”, but certainly with other things.  But what’s worse in the eyes of God?  Two men kissing? Or a man or woman finding nightly entertainment by watching movies or shows about adultery, fornication, or other seemingly popular sexual escapades?  The cold hard truth is that both are just as worse in the eyes of God because they both equally make a mockery of sin and God’s righteous design for marriage.

So, we are just as guilty as the homosexual if we are seeking to be entertained by such things.  We are just as guilty if we do not repent and ask God to cleanse our wicked hearts for finding enjoyment in things that make a complete mockery of God’s sacred design that not only unites a man and a woman for life, but that also depicts the most beautiful picture of Christ and His bride.

So, perhaps the homosexual has it somewhat right when they blast the Christians for being nothing but hypocrites.  Because we are indeed being hypocrites if we condemn the practice of homosexuality yet find entertainment in other things that offend God just the same by making a mockery out of the holy design of marriage.

To the homosexual, I can only wave one banner:  In the words of Paul in 2 Cor. 5:20-21

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God

And to the Christian who has been found guilty of the hypocrisy of condemning the homosexual yet not condemning his own heart for finding enjoyment in other things that mock God just the same, I can only wave one banner:

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God

Can’t you see…we’re no different…we’ve just been redeemed by the God of all grace and mercy.  Let’s start waving the right flag that will truly point all in the direction of Christ. – Cody
