We just got word from the doctor a few minutes ago that Susana is all set to be discharged from Duke. She is doing great! She is eating everything in sight. She is drinking. She is playful. The doctors are very pleased with the outcome of the stem cell transplant. Everything has been a success thus far. So…we’re…outta here!!!
Wow. This past month has been one of the most challenging ever. I don’t know…it really just seemed to hit me hard. Just being in the hospital day after day with so many other sick children in various stages of their disease was hard on my emotions. I realize just how frail I am and it makes me so thankful for my God who is stronger than anything. Without Him, I wouldn’t be able to pick myself up off the floor. He certainly has carried our family throughout this trial.
So, I am already back home since I had to come back yesterday for a meeting at church about the upcoming mission team to Haiti in February. And now, Maria and Susana are on their way and should be here this afternoon.
I wish our treatment ended here…but it doesn’t. We still have a long way to go. Our next stop is Jacksonville, FL for her proton therapy. We will be there for about 30 days. Then, we come back home and finish our treatment here with 6 months of antibody treatment. So…lots more still ahead.
We give praise and thanks to God for all that He has done! Susana is feeling great and looking so much better. But please do not stop praying. We still have some huge mountains in front of us. But as we say in Haiti, “Bondye kap fe” (God is able). – Cody
