I suppose this is something that we need to get used to. Susana’s blood counts dropped to the very bottom, which is what we were anticipating as a result of the chemo. But then this evening she spiked a fever of 102, therefore we called the doctor and they told us that we needed to bring her back to the ER. So, here I am (Cody) sitting in the ER with my little girl who is about to be admitted to the ICU because she needs a lot of blood. Her white blood count is at zero. Again, the doctors told us to expect this since the chemo not only destroys the tumors, but also destroys the good cells too. So, because she got a fever and has no white blood cells to fight off the fever, it was necessary to get her back to the hospital.
She will have several blood transfusions tonight. I pray that she just sleeps through it all as she is doing right now. The doctor told me that she will probably be here for the week since they will need to monitor her and see if her counts come back up.
From what I have heard from other parents that are in this same battle, these things are just par for the course. We just have to get used to the fact that we may be in and out of the hospital all throughout her treatment.
I am so proud of my little girl. She is so strong and so brave. She is so beautiful and sweet. May the Lord be holding her close now even as she sleeps.
So…prayer warriors…let’s go to work!
