Prayers for Susana

We know that we have tens of thousands of people lifting our little Susana up before the throne of God.  Please don’t stop.  We thank you all so much for your love, offers of support, and mostly your prayers.  Without the Lord, we would be utterly lost without any hope, but through the grace of Jesus, we stand upon the rock and find our refuge in Him.  This has been the hardest day of our lives ever, but we are so thankful that we have the God of this universe to call out to, cry out to, and lean upon for strength, endurance, and hope.

Well, the doctor has told us that things are not looking good for Susana based on the statistics.  But we know that our God is much greater than statistics.  He is the great physician.  We know that the final word begins and ends with Him.  Psalm 139 reminds us that all the days of Susana’s life were written in His book before one of them ever came to be.  This does not take God by surprise.  His will is going to be accomplished in all of this.  We just need the grace moment by moment to accept the will of God.  Just like Jesus agonized in the garden before the cross and was sweating drops of blood because of the emotional pain, so we too agonize over what we are experiencing and what difficulties we anticipate in the near future.  But also just as Jesus ended his time of agony and tears in the garden with the words of complete surrender to the Father in "not my will, but thy will be done", so too we end our times of tears and agony each moment with the same words, "Lord, may your will be done."

We are in the process of praying through and figuring out where the best place will be for her to get treatment.  We are looking into St. Judes in Memphis, one of the leading cancer hospitals, but we were just told by the doctor here who talked with a doctor there that they don’t think she will be accepted because St Jude’s does not currently have a research project going on that pertains to the type of cancer that she has.  So, we are also considering some other options, but are not yet sure.

  • Please pray that the Lord will lead us to the best hospital for her treatment.
  • Please pray that the tumors don’t put any pressure on her spine which could cause paralysis
  • Please pray that the chemo and treatment plan will aggressively attack the cancer
  • Please pray for continued strength for Susana and our family
  • Please pray that we will give glory to God in ALL things.

  1. Another family we pray for, who’s daughter 9yrs had cancer, used MD Anderson in Texas. They can not say enough about the care they received there. This is their caring bridge site: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jaceybagwell

She was given a poor prognosis, but God has her in remission 🙂
She has done so much better than the doctors anticipated!

Will be praying for you all! Isn’t it amazing how God can provide comfort even in the darkest of times. Our prayers are with you.

  2. Cody and Maria,

Know that we are praying for you and the girls. As parents we can not fathom what you are going through right now. But, the more we read your blog the more we learn from your faith in Christ. There is nothing we can say that will help you right now except that you are in our prayers however hopefully with these words for Jesus Christ himself will help.

“Come to me, all you who are weak and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in hear, and you will find rest for your souls.: Matthew 11:28 – 29

  4. Your family is and will continue to be in my prayers. Thank you for the testimony of your faith in such times as these. I’m praying, as you are praying, for healing for Susana on this side of heaven, ever mindful that the Great Physician is in complete control. Praying that you will all feel His comforting presence every second of every day. God bless you and keep you all.
    Love in Him,
    Nancy

  5. My prays are with you and your family. Ive been there with a close friend and it will be tough but god will get you through this.

  6. My prayers are humbly offered for this small yet mighty warrior in God’s kingdom…even in this, may the glory be His.

Offering my prayers for you and your wife in these times….may God wrap His comforting arms around you both, give you rest in these troubling seas and the peace that comes from the assurance of His hand even in these dark times

  7. I am sadden to hear about your little girl. Just last night I was speaking to a friend on Facebook & she told me that he little 5mth old nephew has this same type of cancer. I gave her alot of info on how to go about & have his doctors refer him to St. Jude’s Children’s Research hospital here in Memphis. From what little information I read about them they have a 55% survival rate with this type of cancer. So please take a moment to check out there website & speak it over with her Doctors also. Here is the site address ~ http://www.stjude.org ~~~ My prayers will also be with your little one! God Bless ~ “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

  8. I heard those words from my son, I have cancer. What a sinking feeling. Having taught pathology for 10 years I knew the background of cancer and the fight that would have to be undertaken. I have to say, with a multitude of prayers, some from people I’ve never met and others by social networking, my son beat the vast odds and is cancer free. My thoughts and prayers are with Susana and you.

Lord above please send you healing power to little Susana. Help her to conquer this dreaded disease like you did for my son, Steven. Amen.

  9. don’t give up hope …. God still heals …. and will you are waiting for that you can counter-attack with nutrition and supplements … sounds crazy but many have gone that route and found success! I am doing the same for myself as I have just had my thyroid removed with 2 cancerous tumors. One book to start with is Suzanne Sommers book “Knockout – interviews with doctors who are curing cancer” and Dr. Patrick Quillin’s, “Beating Cancer with Nutrition” .

  10. My husband and I are Jonathan Brumley’s in laws. We got your blog link from Sheryl. Please know that we are among the tens of thousands praying for you and your family and sweet little Susana. Molly and Jonathan recalled how much she loves sweets as we talked about her tonight. May the God of all comfort keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus!

  11. Lord Jesus please help this poor girl feel better soon! in your heavenly name, Amen – as from jaden age 5

Your Daughter will be more than IN our prayers…. right now she IS our prayers. Thank you for serving the Lord with your life and with your whole family. we will be continueing to follow your story and lift your baby girl up in prayer. I can not offer you any words that would make you feel better or give you peace- infact my heart is breaking with you thousands of miles away so i cant imagin how you all feel. God is good- and if you end up in MN at the university or Mayo remember my e-mail, we live right between the two and would love to help if you end up our way.

  12. I have prayed. Walk humbly with our God; there is nothing too big for Him. I pray for heavenly angels to tend to Susana every moment of each day and night; that there would be a legion of angels surrounding her – before her, behind her, above her, below her – fighting the enemy and protecting her in the name of Jesus. Let God hold you all. Peace.

  13. I am praying for strength for your family. I pray that God will give you a comfort and peace to get through this difficult time in your lives. I posted this on my FB page and asked others to pray as well. God Bless.

  14. I want you to know my family and I will now include your precious family in our daily prayers. I have several children and can only imagine what you are going through. Always remember~ God is in charge~ There is a comfort in that statement. My dear Mother-n-law always says that to me when I’m upset over something.

Always, always, always give your worries to God!

I might not know you, but we are all brothers and sisters in Christ and I want to tell you that we care about you.

God Bless your Beautiful family, Debbie Sue.

  15. God is able. My husband is 14 months beyond stage 4 colon cancer which they gave him little hope for getting under control. This is an agressive one. They say you never cure cancer just beat it down for a time. Well my God has the final word. We prayed for His will and asked believing he wanted to show himself in a mighty way to us. After over 1 yr of treatments (not an easy road) there is no active cancer in his liver and only a small spot on his lung. He may soon be able to reduce his treatments. Every 2 weeks has been so hard but God has been faithful to walk with us and will continue. Know that God loves you all and is walking with you every step of the way. Our prayers are with you. No matter what you are told the Lord has the final say not man.

  16. My heart goes out to for your little girl. She is stronger than you may think and with God’s healing touch and the faith for her healing these words I Pray.
Father you are the author and finisher of our faith. I Pray with all my heart for this dear one, this precious little angel that has this mountain infront of her and her parents. Please oh Lord give them the strength to climb to the top of this Mountain and to be able to sing praises to you father for the blessings you have bestowed on them in their time of need. Reach down oh Lord and have mercy on this child and re-buke the sickness and heal her of the Cancer oh Lord. Bless her to be a shining light to others of you precious love you have for your people and allow her to be a witness of how Prayer changes circumstances in our lives. Please father heal this little one in the name of your Son Jesus Christ I Pray Amen…

  17. I am so sorry to hear about Susana. My prayers will be with you and your family.

Oh Lord, please send healing to little Susana. Lay your heading hand upon her and heal her little body. Just wrap your loving arms around her and your family and let them know your presence during this time. Silver and gold have I none but what I have I give to Susana and her family. In Jesus name. Amen.

  18. I do understand b/c I have lived that nightmare. My 14 yr old sone was diagnosed with ewings sarcoma, a bone caner. We were sent to St. Jude and he received excelent care that went beyond his physical needs. I do hope you can get your daughter in there but if not I have heard Texas Children is amazing as well. Sadly my son relapsed shortly after his transplant and he passed away May 31, 2008 at St. Jude. I will pray for your precious daughter and that God will direct you to the best hospital for her needs. Once you have regrouped please use your voice to find out why so many children are getting this awful disease and help us see a day where cancer doesn’t take away our precious children!

  19. I know this is a terrible thing for you to experience with your dear child. I want to encourage you to be willing to think outside of the box. I have been through my own battle with cancer and have done lots of research as I restored my health with God’s help and non-traditional methods. There is a vast amount of information out there if you’re willing to look for it. There are very effective, non-toxic treatments that can restore true health without destroying the person being treated. Please get a copy of the book “Outsmart Your Cancer” and check out the website http://www.cancertutor.com. These will give you a good start on gaining knowledge that you won’t get from conventional doctors. It’s not their fault necessarily. They just haven’t been taught these things. May God give you wisdom and strength and lead you to the very best solution for your lovely child.

  20. In times of trouble my favorite verse of strength is Psalm 121 I hope this verse will bring you confort in this time on the unknown.. Psalm 121 I will lift up my eyes to the hills From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made Heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold He who keeps Israel Shall neither slimber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper The Lord is your shade at your RIght Hand. The sun shall not strike you by day Nor teh moom by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth and even forevermore. Will be praying for you sweet child Suzana and your family..

  21. Father God, Susana is the name You called her by before You knit her together in her mother’s womb. She is a stranger in this land, and at such a young age, an ambassador for Jesus Christ, sharing the gospel alongside her family in Haiti, producing much fruit for Your kingdom. Remember this child for good for all that she has done for this people. I call this enemy, cancer, by name, and I say to you, “you have no power or authority in this child’s life, for Jesus Christ has already claimed this victory by His stripes and by the prayers of faith poured out on her behalf. She is redeemed from the curse of the law, and under grace. You are commanded to leave this child’s body in the name of Jesus Christ, and never enter into her again.” Lord, I pray that You would put Your hedge of protection around this family and bless them with a great and mighty victory so they can be back to doing Your work promptly. With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Thank you that all of your promises for Susana are yes and amen in Christ Jesus and that natural circumstances never prevail over Your supernatural truths. According to Mark 11:24, Susana is healed. Thank you, Jesus. Please give Isabela comfort and strength to be there for her sister and her parents. Give her wisdom to understand the physical and the spiritual battle and faith to pray through it all. Bless Cody and Maria with perserverance to hold on to Your words when the enemy attacks and block their ears from all fear and doubt. God is not a man that He should lie, or the son of man that He should repent. Hath He not said and shall He not do it? You are Jehovah Rapha, God our healer, Your covenant name, and You are not a respecter of persons. You sent Your Word and healed us and Your Word never returns void. I claim this victory for little Susana and for Your kingdom in Jesus’ name and I prophesy that freely she has been given Your miracle of healing, freely she will give by laying hands on the sick that they would recover. Thank you that our prayers are a sweet smelling savour to You and I boldly proclaim that Yes, Jesus, You will find faith on the earth when You return. All glory, honor, and praise to Your holy name, Jesus Christ, Amen.

God has held us up during our trial with our 3 year old son, Connor (youtube.com Connor’s Story part one and part 2), and I am convinced that nothing can separate us from His love. The daily miracles He has given us, He is more than willing to give to all who will take Him at His word. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We will be praying for you!
Sincerely in Christ, Judy Husey and family

  22. MD Anderson, Houston Texas…a GREAT cancer hospital.

May the Lord bless and heal her, in the name of Jesus.

  23. Maria and Cody,

you are so in my prayers. I have thought of you so much over the past couple of days. wish I could help you out in so many ways, but right now the best thing is for me to keep praying. Our God is so powerful. SOnetimes as humans we want to do it all on our own and that is when we ge into trouble. PLEASE keep glorifing our Lord and keeping Him first. He has the right answers even if it is not what we want to hear. We have to stay strong and on His course. If you ahve anything on the Haiti end that needs to be done please feel free to ask.

    In My Prayers,

    Michelle

  25. I was given that same dreadful news in July 2002… stage 4 pancreatic cancer with 1 year to live. Our God is an almighty gracious God, as He has healed me completely!!! I pray for the same healing for Susana. “Healed from Cancer” by Dodie Osteen is a great inspiration and helped me get thru the tough times. May God bless you and keep you!

  26. My heart has been breaking for you as I have watched your story unfold through Kristi’s fb posts! Please know that Jeremy and I are praying as well as others in the body of Northview Church.

  31. Thank you so much. I have bookmarked your little girls site and I too will pray for her. She is beautiful. God is able to do more than we could ever ask for, think, or imagine. Keep in touch. It is good to have Christian brothers and sisters who truly find rest in the sovereignty of God and know that His plan is the best. God bless you guys and give you strength…

  32. Dear Cody & Maria,
I am so sad to hear about Susana and what you all are going through but know that the Lord is in control, He loves you ALL so very much. He is mighty, He can do anything! We will keep her in our prayers. God is growing you all through this. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29 Be strong, be brave. Susana needs you to share with her the love of the Lord and His peace. So do not be afraid, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 I will lift your family in my daily prayers..
