Holding onto the Word of Truth

It is His word that gives us the strength, peace, comfort, hope, and grace that we need each and every day.  How could we ever endure this without Christ and His words of promise.  He truly is sufficient…even in such a time as this.

I am blown away by the prayers and scriptures that have been prayed over Susana all over the world.  I am serious when I say that prayers are reaching the Father’s throne from the 4 corners of the earth.  We have people praying in Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, South America, Latvia, Central America, England, and so many other countries.  I am sure that we have well over 50,000 people praying for our precious Susana.  What a blessing!!!  The body of Christ has supported us in so many ways.

So, what I am in the process of doing is going over every single email, facebook comment, caring bridge comment, and blog comment, and what I am doing is writing down every single scripture that has been prayed over her.  I want to take all these scriptures and write them on a big poster board or banner or something and place them in Susana’s room so that we can always be praying scripture over her.  We know that there is power in the Word of God!

Susana is on her 3rd cycle of her 1st round of chemo.  The doctors say that so far she is doing well.  Last night, we were so excited to see her perk up for about a half hour.  She just started talking, joking around with Isabela, laughing, and praying.  I asked her if she wanted to maybe take a walk and she said that she wanted to go to the park or the beach.  Well, she was just about to get up to take a walk, and then she decided that she did not want to.  Oh well, it was just so good to see her perk up for a bit.  Then, she said that her tummy was starting to hurt again and then she went back to lying down and not saying much.

Today, she is doing better.  She is talking somewhat, which is just so wonderful to hear.  I hope that soon we can take a walk to the playroom.  But we take things moment by moment.  Right now, she said that she wants to eat some chicken nuggets.  Hopefully, by the time the nuggets arrive from the cafeteria she will not have changed her mind.

We had a talk with Isabela yesterday to explain to her what is going on with Susana.  She seemed to really understand what we were saying and she became sad for a moment.  When I asked her what this all meant that Susana has cancer and I asked her what we need to do, she replied, “We need to pray every single day and every single night that God will heal her.”  That’s my girl.  I am so blessed to have such amazing daughters…and an amazing wife. – Cody

  1. Cody and Maria… I want you to know that as much as the church has been a blessing to you all, you also have been a blessing to the church. So many believers are united in prayer for your family, and He has chosen the Whittakers to be a vessel through which He brings His children to their knees. I wish that the circumstances were different – that we were united in prayer over your work in Haiti, instead of your little girl’s battle with cancer. But I trust what His Word tells us in Psalm 138:8:

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me…”

Tell Susana that her brother in Christ is praying for right now! I’m also praying for Isabela and God’s protection over her sweet heart. Love you all…

  2. Exodus 23:25
“So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.”

    Exodus 15:26
“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

    Psalm 103:3-4
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,

    Jeremiah 30:17
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the LORD.

    Luke 4:40
When the sun was setting, all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them.

    Psalm 107:20
He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

I Peter 5:7 casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

Psalms 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

Psalms 138:3 In the day that I called, you answered me. You encouraged me with strength in my soul.

Hebrews 13:6 So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

John 15:7 If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it will be done for you.

Isaiah 41:10 Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Add these to the list!!! Love to you all~

  3. I was moved in February when we were informed of missionaries who were sending word out about the aftermath of the earthquake. We found out about the Whittaker family and were move to pray. When I learned of Susana’s condition, I sent out a summary e-mail to my e-mail contact list and asked for prayer. I am sure that the e-mail will be forwarded and prayers multiplied. We live daily on Matthew 6:33. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.”KJV

  7. Hi Jody and Maria. Along with the thousands of other folk diligently praying for Susana, so have we down here at Would Jesus Go There in New Zealand. I have also posted a prayer request for Susana on the home page of our website; http://www.wouldjesusgothere.com . Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time, and give the girls a big Kiwi hug from the team at WJGT. Be blessed, Steve

  8. I have been reading your blog since the earthquake. I have no words that will help you but I am praying that you will feel Gods loving hand around you like you have never felt before. (I am from CT too but now in NJ) Our family is praying for Isabela as well.

  9. Dear Cody and Maria,

I learned about Susana from Dawn George website “Break The Bold” I have been praying since then for little Susana, my heart and prayers are with you.

I have a personal testimony that I want to share with you. My little nephew in Cuba suffered from same type of cancer “Neuroblastoma” at the age of “8 months old”, he was a little fragile baby, he started feeling sick and with high fever, when they took him to the hospital, they listened to his chest since he was very congested, the doctors decided to take some scans and X-rays, and they found a big mass in his chest and it did spread to his neck. They did the entire test and a biopsy, and he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. I still can remember my sister and her husband suffering, because of this unfortunate episode The Lord used it to show her his salvation, yes my sister met Jesus through his son’s disease, she learn about faith and everything else, going through this journey, and I thank God for that, because she and her husband met our savior and accepted him. My nephew had surgery 6 months ago to remove the mass in his chest, and he had a strong 8 months Chemo treatment, right now is totally healed and healthy, and we give all the honor and glory to The Lord that healed him, and made it possible.

I felt since I read about Susana I should let you know that there is hope in our loving God, that he is faithful, loving and merciful. Cancer runs in my family, I know how it feels, my mother and father are cancer survivors, still my dad is battleting with it, his cancer does not have any cure, but the Lord has manage to keep him alive until now for his purposes.

I know The Lord will use your journey to touch many hearts and point them to our beautiful savior Jesus Christ.

    With Love,

    Martha Rivero

  10. Dear Cody and Maria:

The amazing thing about God’s children is that you don’t have to know each other to feel the need to pray, to support each other and to spread the feeling of profound love. I pray God’s abundant blessings flow over Susana with special healings and that your entire family is protected each day giving you the strength and wisdom you need in this very trying moment.

Hugs for Susana. Tell her that Granny Bin said “Everytime you say the Name Jesus, you put a smile on His face”….
