  3. Hi, cody and Maria, It’s John from Old Bridge,NJ . As I saw your fishing photos and remember the day you arrived back in Haiti with your new fly pole ,i can’t help but be happy for your first catch. These photos give me a good idea for a way to minister to the people along the ocean there in Jacmel and the surrounding communities . We know that the Lord called us to be fishers of “men” and as we do that, why not make “fishers” of men and young boys and girls for that matter . My thoughts are ,of bringing down a whole bunch of fishing poles and tackle to share with some local residents to not only provide fish “much needed protien” for thier families but maybe even to sell a few extra fish to provide for other neccessities . this could provide a livelyhood for many and open up opportunities to share the Gospel as there are so many “fish stories ” particularly in the Gospels . Another awesome item. In mentioning to my boss about your fish story,I shared with him the addage about “give a man a fish and he’ll eat today , teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime”. Immediately my boss (“not a Christian” ) was touched and told me that the next time I go (late May or June) he will pay for up to 100 fishing poles for us to bring . God is awesome !! Another thought ,and this is something I always do when I pack for missions trips . I suggest that missionaries pack somes of their things in five gallon “Home Depot” buckets with lids and then put them in your duffles or suit cases as these clean new buckets can always be a blessing in a culture where so many have to daily trek for water . they also make great buckets for all those fish the Lord can provide !!!

  4. John, this is something that I have thought of as well as I would love to use the passion that God has given me for fishing and use it for ministering to others. I would love to get a bunch of rods, reels, and tackle and teach some of the locals. Just to let you know, I didn’t catch that fish on a fly rod, but rather on my new spinning rod that somebody brought down for me. I tried the fly rod last night, but the surf was too strong. Talk to you later…
